My group studies the genetics of virulence in a plant pathogenic bacterium, Ralstonia solanacearum. I’m also interested in tropical plant pathology and the impact of crop diseases on food security in the developing world.
What is your passion? Bacterial biology! Biological & social dimensions of agriculture. History of science, especially that of women & under represented minorities in science.
What advice do you have for undergrads, grads, postdocs seeking careers in STEM fields? Get into the lab or the field as soon and as often as you can. Seize every opportunity for experience – that’s where the joy comes from. Persist.
