Researchers surveyed 733 adolescent Black girls from middle and high schools across three socio-economically diverse school districts in the Midwest. The study found that racial identity and positive perceptions of school climate were associated with greater academic motivation.

Over twenty University of Wisconsin-Madison faculty, staff, and students traveled to Salt Lake City, Utah to participate in the 2017, Society for Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS) Conference. SACNAS is an inclusive organization dedicated to fostering the success of Chicano/Hispanic and Native American scientists – from college students to professionals- in attaining advanced degrees, careers, and positions of leadership in STEM. This year’s conference hosted over 4,000 undergraduates, graduate students, and professionals in the Salt Palace Convention Center. This three-day event, displayed cutting-edge science and arranged professional development, training, and mentoring opportunities for students and scientists at all levels.
